Caring For Your Flexible Partial Denture
Your flexible partial is light, slim, and gentle on your gums. The flexible material is comfortable, but it has a few care rules of its own that keep it fitting like it should.
Wearing It
- Seat it with your fingers and let the flexible clasps hug into place. Do not bite it in.
- It adapts quickly. Most people feel at home with it within days.
- Sore spots are an easy fix. Call us for a quick adjustment instead of pushing through.
Eating & Speaking
- Start with soft foods cut into small pieces, chewing on both sides evenly.
- Add harder foods gradually as you gain confidence.
- Speech settles in a few days. Reading aloud at home speeds it up.
Daily Cleaning
- Rinse after meals to clear food and debris.
- Brush it gently every day with a soft brush and a cleaner made for flexible dentures. Regular toothpaste is too abrasive.
- Never use hot water or bleach. Heat can warp the flexible material and bleach discolors it.
Overnight
- Take it out every night to let your gums and teeth rest.
- Soak it in cool or lukewarm water or the solution we recommend, so the material does not dry out.
Call Us If
- The fit changes or it starts feeling loose.
- A sore spot is not improving after a few days.
- You see a crack or tear in the material.
- Your gums stay red or irritated under the partial.
Protect The Teeth Around It
The natural teeth beside your partial collect more plaque than usual, and they keep your partial fitting well.
- Brush and floss carefully every day with fluoride toothpaste, especially around the teeth the partial rests on.
- Clean the partial itself daily so plaque does not sit against your gums.
