After Oral Sedation

The medication you took today keeps working for hours after you leave, even once you feel alert. Plan a quiet rest of your day and let someone else do the driving and deciding.

For The Rest Of Today

  • A responsible adult should stay with you until you are fully alert.
  • No driving or operating machinery for 24 hours. Your reflexes are affected even when you feel fine.
  • No alcohol today. It multiplies the sedative effect.
  • No important decisions or documents until tomorrow.

Eating & Drinking

  • Start with water or clear liquids, then move to light, soft foods as you feel ready.
  • Skip heavy, greasy, or spicy meals until tomorrow, they can upset a sedated stomach.
  • Stay hydrated. Small, frequent sips beat big gulps.

What's Normal

  • Drowsiness that comes and goes into the evening. Naps are encouraged.
  • Patchy memory of the appointment. That is the medication doing its job.
  • Mild dizziness. Get up slowly and have someone nearby on stairs.

Your Medications

  • Take or resume medications only as directed by Dr. Abedini at your visit.
  • Do not add sleep aids or other sedating medications tonight without asking us first.
  • Questions about any medication? Call us before taking it.
